The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has initiated a thorough investigation into the stabbing of Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, at an Arizona state prison, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who pled guilty to federal charges in the 2020 death while in custody of 46-year-old George Floyd, was stabbed and seriously injured in prison on Friday by a fellow inmate.

After former Minneapolis police office Derek Chauvin was stabbed in an Arizona prison Friday, his lawyer and family are calling out the "outrageous" lack of information.

Chauvin, who was convicted in the 2020 death of George Floyd, was reportedly seriously injured in the stabbing, and Minnesota attorney general's office spokesman Brian Evans said, "We have heard that he is expected to survive."

But the lack of details for the lawyer and the family has them outraged.

An attorney for Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, said Saturday that Chauvin’s family has been kept in the dark by federal prison officials after he was stabbed in prison.
