Thought for the day

"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete." -- Buckminster Fuller

Comedian and talk show host Trevor Noah is leaving The Daily Show after seven years at the helm during which the late-night infotainment show's viewership declined dramatically.

Noah, 38, who hails from South Africa, took over the show from former host Jon Stewart in 2015.

He revealed the news to a stunned live audience during yesterday's taping of the show, which runs from Monday-Thursday on Comedy Central.

September’s box office numbers poured cold water on industry hopes that Hollywood is back in full swing by posting the lowest totals since 1997. It did not help matters that a steady stream of “woke” features poured into North American theaters.

One of the producers of My Son Hunter has reportedly filed an ethics complaint with the State Bar of California against Hunter Biden’s attorney Kevin Morris, alleging the lawyer posed as a documentary filmmaker to infiltrate the movie set in order to spy for his client.

If you haven’t been paying attention: Vintage T-Shirts are HOT. Take a turn through any bar district, college campus, or tech hub and you will see what I’m talking about. I’m not referring to the well-maintained, unstained works of art some people have come to expect.

Forget condition. Rips and stains are prefered and have little effect on demand or price. It’s all about the “sick colors”, nostalgic graphics, distressed pieces, and oversized, loungy streetwear.

Marvel Studios’ decision to feature an Israeli superhero called “Sabra” in its upcoming film has been met by outrage from Palestinian artists who say it is evidence of “racism” and “white-washing colonialism”.

Marvel, which is based in New York and is owned by Disney, announced late last week that the character, who operates as an Israeli intelligence (Mossad) agent, would be featured in the 2024 Captain America movie.

As Israel was launching a deadly assault on Gaza, killing thousands of civilians and displacing more than 100,000 people, many of America’s top TV, music and film producers were organizing to protect the apartheid state’s reputation from widespread international condemnation.

Earlier this month, activists and comic book fans alike were in uproar over Marvel Studios’ announcement that Israeli actress Shira Haas will play Zionist superhero Sabra in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Captain America: New World Order. Many Palestine advocates accused Marvel’s decision to add Sabra to the MCU as exalting Israeli abuse and war crimes.

I first noticed it 10 years ago while watching a BBC adaptation of Graham Greene’s famous 1938 gangster novel Brighton Rock. Considered a very violent book for its time, it was famously filmed in 1948 as a classic piece of British noir starring a young Richard Attenborough as Pinkie, the hoodlum with the sharp suits and penchant for throwing acid in his rivals’ faces.
